This house at 1061 County Road 27 in the hamlet of Gypsum was built in 1851 as a school and used until 1941. It is now a private residence. Recessed sidelights in doorway and triangular window in gable peak. Note the unusually large windows. Richard Palmer blog.

Editor's Note: Note the building date discrepancy between 1838 stated by Roudabush and 1851 stated by Palmer. A letter dated 2/5/1965 from the then cobblestone owner Mrs. Harriet Logie stated, "I have been told that it was built about 1838 and sold to the Town for a school house in 1853. It was a school until 1941 when it reverted back to a dwelling. I'd like to know when it was built and by whom but have had no luck so far. My deed goes back to 1853."
